My interest in natural history, particularly birds, began as a child in Kent in the south-east of England.  Much of my early birding took me to Elmley and Oare Marshes, Grove Ferry and Dungeness, one of my favourite sea watching sites.

The desire to find rare and new species to me took me further afield to Norfolk, the Scottish Highlands and the Isles of Scilly.  I've also been fortunate enough to photograph wildlife in diverse locations across the world such as Poland, Sri Lanka, India, Australia and Canada to name but a few.

SIRCET news

Home for me now is Rakiura National Park on Stewart Island, located south of New Zealand's South Island.  My work as a birdwatching and nature guide allows me to show other birders New Zealand's rare endemics on Ulva Island, the world-renowned open bird sanctuary, as well as a variety of seabirds on pelagics in the Foveaux Strait.

I volunteer some of my time to various organisations such as SIRCET (Stewart Island/Rakiura Community Environment Trust) for their Weka movement and population census; the Kakapo Recovery Programme on Codfish Island; and the translocation of South Island Saddlebacks from Ulva Island to the mainland.  Recently I accepted an invitation to become a trustee of the Ulva Island Charitable Trust.

I've had a number of images published in leading British wildlife magazines as well as featuring in a few local publications and websites here on Stewart Island.  Images of Rakiura calendarMy photographs are also used to raise money for SIRCET and are available for purchase at The Fernery Gallery & Gift Shop on Stewart Island.
